We all slept until 7:30 this morning. Then breakfast at a local hangout across from the hotel. Our Sunday breakfast folk will love the fact that it was $4.99 because we got there before nine o'clock! Good food, so we had lunch there too. Ward and I did a little shop for bike riding essentials--protein energy food and electrolyte powder, plus more inner tubes and CO2 bullets. Not too many flats along the way but a few. Often the tires pick up wires from the blown out tire treads from the trucks, which generally end up on the paved shoulders of the roads. After lunch, boys off for an hour and a half of massage. They came home with smiles on their faces! I went for a bike ride to Wascana Park and the Legislature building. Pictures show the welcome sign at our hotel for our riders, no doubt! There is a picture of a street lined with elm trees, something we haven't seen for years in the East. Lots of geese at Wascana Park, a lovely green space with a huge lake, in the middle of Regina. Hopefully, Olin can count the number of goslings in the one photo. Queen Elizabeth is seen on her favourite horse, Burmese, which was presented to her by the RCMP. The bridge on Albert St. is quite lovely to drive over. The last picture is of Craves Restaurant which is where we will eat to-night. It's a happening place within the Assiniboia Club. The menu promises pickerel. I have my fingers crossed. Maybe an idea for the Halifax Club??! Gordon spent some time in the business centre here today, and I did laundry at the provided facilities. It's now cocktail hour for Ward and I and Gordon has gone to see an Imax movie. Each to his own! Did I mention that it has been another scorching day? Never got to 1533 Retallack St. to see the home of my Aunt Doris and Uncle Norman years ago, but there are streets filled with similar homes. Got a kick out of the names of the cross streets around here--Hamilton, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Winnipeg, etc. I guess you can't have every street named "Elm"!
Madge
This is the story of how boring people can sometimes do exciting things. In this case father and son are going to bike across Canada in what will be either a great bonding experience or a lengthy estrangement. We are lucky enough to have Madge to support us on this ride and to be joined by Andrew, Souhaila, Marlie, Tom and Helen (And Olin of course). May we be strong of body and mind and may the wind be forever at our backs!
I am AMAZED at your progress. Karl is nonchalant. Never mind.....you guys rock! Enjoy Regina. Charlie wants to know if you have lots of money due to the Royal Mint in the vicinity. Catherine from across the street
