Osoyoos to Greenwood

June 24--another pack and play day!  The lake was fog and cloud ridden this morning but both lifted before the biker gang left around 10 a.m.  We could see the HUGE long climb they had ahead of them but were heartened by the hint of sunshine among the clouds.  There was a lovely walkway along the waterfront opposite our hotel so Helen and I decided that we'd get a little walk in before the drive.  Olin came on his scooter bike.  First stop was the liquor store because we were out of wine (of course).  Then over to the grocery store to pick up provisions for picnic and some energy (Cliff) bars, and also more sun block.  Then back to do the final packing up.  That is a real challenge each day, as we are packed to the gunnels!  Olin is very patient with his two old caregivers and happily settles into his car seat with his books once we've seen the gang off.  The Jeep left Osoyoos around 11 a.m. and we were awed by the huge view backwards down to the lakes.  We didn't catch up to our riders until after the crest of the hill--a 10 km heavy climb.  The rain had held off until that time, but then it started to pour.  Our jeep waited for the riders at Johnstone Provincial camping ground.  They finally arrived soaked to the skin, shivering and discouraged.  Too bad I didn't get pictures of the changing of clothes!  We had the picnic laid out but wished there had been soup!  As usual all the food vanished.  Luckily the rain had let up while we had lunch.  Olin had eaten his lunch in the Jeep setting his food up on the dashboard--quite funny.  Helen and I were a little cold and wet but nothing compared to the riders.  After packing up yet again, we followed after them.  More civilization this time so when it again started to pour they took cover in a coffee shop at Rock Creek.  The scenery today was a lot of "ranch country"--small holdings nestled into the rolling, verdant hills.  We arrived in Greenwood, toured the excellent museum, checked into our motel and hit the playground across the street.  Once the riders arrived there was a flurry of laying out the wet clothing, cleaning and tuning bikes, and having hot showers.  Olin played his Bingo game which Helen had kindly provided.  Dinner was at the Pacific Grill but not until after 7:30.  We enjoyed an excellent meal and Olin entertained us all.  Now home to bed, and the end of another day.
What an amazing country we live in!
