Not much to say about the drive from Warroad to Fort Frances yesterday, except that the terrain really changed from the flatlands to small farms in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees and swollen rivers. The sun never shone and for the bicyclists, there was an unremitting strong wind out of the East. They really had to slog the distance. We crossed into Canada at Rainy River and the stopped for picnic lunch at Pinewood. Nothing there except a nice church so we ate at the back of the truck in the parking lot. Arrived into Fort Frances. Helen had the room with balcony over-looking Rainy Lake. We had hoped for cocktails on that balcony in the sunshine, but no luck! The view was awesome though and Helen said she watched the storm clouds come and go. The rain did not come until later when we were in the lovely dining-room. I had Walleye again and it was delicious. Lake fish tastes different from the ocean fish we are used to. We watched as the docks, half-submerged, bounced and the waves splashed over the sand bags on the shore. What a mess for these folk to have to clean up when the waters recede.
This morning the boys got away shortly after 7 am. Helen and I are now taking a Mcdonalds break. We have already crossed the bridge from Fort Frances in Ontario to International Falls in the U S of A. Grocery store soon to stock up on the fruit and vegetables that we could not bring over the border.
