This is the story of how boring people can sometimes do exciting things. In this case father and son are going to bike across Canada in what will be either a great bonding experience or a lengthy estrangement. We are lucky enough to have Madge to support us on this ride and to be joined by Andrew, Souhaila, Marlie, Tom and Helen (And Olin of course). May we be strong of body and mind and may the wind be forever at our backs!

Portage to Steinbach
Well, this morning I had a flat tire in the motel in the morning. That's a first. Anyway all fixed and on the road by 7:30 or so. Weather clear with a west wind. The trans Canada highway was OK with a good shoulder. Turned south just before the Peg and the roads were good for cycling. The girls had a great picnic set up in Saint Norbert. After we hoovered lunch we headed south into a bit of a head wind. Once we went east we could really motor, say 32 KM per hour. Steinbach is a typical prairie town: flat and a little drab. However this is beautiful farm country. Motel seems fine and there is a restaurant attached. Long day at 170 KM but we seem strong. I think tomorrow we cross into the States.
