Now I suppose you are all wondering how Warroad got its name! The Chippewa village was situated here on the edge of Lake of the Woods where, due to its shallow waters, there were wild rice fields. The Sioux from the Red River Valley would arrive here often along the rivers and go to war with the Chippewa over the rice. The Chippewa band is still here and there is a casino.
Nowadays the town is the home of Marvin Windows. Gordon and Souhaila's sunroom windows and doors are from Marvin! The population here is small but you sure get the feeling that it is a company town. There are flowers planted all along the roadway into town. Very pretty.
We had dinner overlooking the lake. Ward and I had Walleye and a side of wild rice. Delicious. No wine tonight as the restaurant was on the Reservation and it is dry! From the pictures you will see that the lake is flooding, still expected to rise more.
The boys have now left and we are off to Fort Frances today. The weather is overcast and a little cooler.
