This is the story of how boring people can sometimes do exciting things. In this case father and son are going to bike across Canada in what will be either a great bonding experience or a lengthy estrangement. We are lucky enough to have Madge to support us on this ride and to be joined by Andrew, Souhaila, Marlie, Tom and Helen (And Olin of course). May we be strong of body and mind and may the wind be forever at our backs!

Warroad to Duluth
Yikes, we struggled for the last three days but now we are in Superior (beside Duluth but in Wisc.) resting for a day. First, we left Warroad bright and early and headed into a strong wind out of the east, about 18KM. It never seemed to stop for 118KM. Quit complaining as it did not rain and the road was pretty good. We followed the Rainy river and the scenery was nice with a lot of rocks and trees. The girls had set up a picnic in a churchyard with sandwiches already made. We did not stay long as were slow on the bikes. Still it was a nice break. We arrived in Fort Frances at about 4:30 after a long day. We of course crossed the border again although the agent was pretty officious. We had a neat motel by a lake but weather was cold and windy so we stayed in. Dinner in the hotel was quite good, I had a steak with peppercorn sauce. Off at 7:00 AM the next morning headed south to Virginia and ran into a SSE wind which made for a long 165KM day. Weather and roads otherwise good. Nice picnic beside Pelican lake in Orr with soup from the restaurant to go with the picnic. In Virginia we ate in a Mexican restaurant which was quite good. Madge, Helen and Gordon had marguerita's. Off this morning at 7:00 with the wind god's unhappy. Wind right out of the south on our nose at say 15KM. It is a 4 lane highway but the shoulder is really nice and wide. Gordon had a sinus headache and was not up to his usual standard but we made it to Duluth. Only 96 KM. Here we are at our motel resting. I think cocktail hour is soon. While the last three days were tough we did do it but I am ready to sacrifice something to they wind gods.
