Rain plagued the riders yesterday and Olin and I literally drove through low lying clouds on the highway. We saw lots of trees, huge rock outcrop pings and then the beautiful Ottawa River. Lots of long climbs for our guys today. Yikes! We had lunch ready for them at Stonecliffe. Thankfully the rain had let up and the bugs were not too bad. After lunch we stopped at a boat ramp and Olin played with a stick in the water. Just before our arrival into Petawawa, Olin fell asleep. Then I could not find the hotel! It had been a long day, believe it or not. The riders were waiting for us when we arrived. There was a nice park with a beach across the road and Olin spent some time skipping some flat pieces of bark with his new-found friend. Happiness! This morning the boys got away at 7:30 in brilliant sunshine. Olin and I found a little more breakfast and h started his sticker book. We are meeting John and Gail for lunch near Quyon. We are pretty sure the road is open.
This is the story of how boring people can sometimes do exciting things. In this case father and son are going to bike across Canada in what will be either a great bonding experience or a lengthy estrangement. We are lucky enough to have Madge to support us on this ride and to be joined by Andrew, Souhaila, Marlie, Tom and Helen (And Olin of course). May we be strong of body and mind and may the wind be forever at our backs!
