This is the story of how boring people can sometimes do exciting things. In this case father and son are going to bike across Canada in what will be either a great bonding experience or a lengthy estrangement.
We are lucky enough to have Madge to support us on this ride and to be joined by Andrew, Souhaila, Marlie, Tom and Helen (And Olin of course).
May we be strong of body and mind and may the wind be forever at our backs!
Well done! What an incredible achievement! Can't wait to hear all about it on Trip later this week. Drive safely back home and see you at Pete's (Souhaila, Gordon and Olin) xo Catherine Priscilla is excited for you too
I’m looking at the last sentence Gordon wrote more than one year ago (or was it Ward): “May we be strong of body and mind and may the wind be forever at our backs!” Well, two out of three ain’t bad, and it was a little unrealistic to expect the winds to be as congenial and cooperative as your team.
You did it. OMG. The Skinner team will be my heroes forever. To accomplish your goal is a magnificent feat, both for riders and support team. There were so many resistances that few would willingly overcome. I think of numbing hands, rain storms, cross winds and head winds, bumps and crud on the shoulders of many roads and the complete absence of shoulders on others. I think of endless flat, mind-numbing scenery, wicked 15% grade hills, unexpected detours. I think of all that Madge had to think about, organize and accomplish each day, and the willingness of Ward and Gordon to accommodate guest riders.
Enough sentiment? OK. I trust you all had enough energy to celebrate your return. To all of you, here’s to many long sleeps, long hours in the sunshine and perhaps a slow cycle to the market on Saturday. Here's to a safe journey home, Sou, gordon and Olin. See you pretty soon, Andrew.
