Florenceville to Fredericton

Andrew's plane was about three hours late so by the time we drove back to Florenceville it was 12:30 AM.  Not a good time to go to bed with a day of biking ahead of us.  However, we had Andrew and his bike so all is good.  We woke up to rain and the sound of thunder.  We can handle rain, sort of, but biking in lightning is not a good idea.  However the rain stopped so we got ready and the four of us left later than normal at 8:30.  The wind was light but out of the south.  We crossed the river and went down the west side of the river.  At 45 KM we stopped at a cute coffee shop/craft gallery where it appears all the local hang out.  Madge and Olin caught up to us as well.  We started off and the rain started.  For the next 110 KM we had either rain or heavy rain.  Oh well once you are wet you cannot get wetter and we were warm.  Madge went ahead to find a place for lunch with shelter.  She found it but we biked right by her without seeing her.  I guess our heads were down.  She went on ahead and found another place in a little town called Nackawic.  It seemed to be a house with a big overhang.  There was a gentleman there with Madge and Olin waving us in.  Got under the shelter and we were offered coffee and the picnic was being laid out.  It was then I noticed that we were at the Flewelling Funeral Home.  I didn't think I looked that bad.  However Wendell Flewelling said he was not busy so make yourself comfortable.  After a great lunch we set off in the rain. The scenery was nice as we followed the river and the road was generally good.  We hit Fredericton at about 5:00 but the Ramada was on the east side of the river.  We had a lot of trouble getting through Fredericton as the roads were very busy and not bike friendly.  After a lot of work we got to the river and found a walking/biking bridge.  It was an old railway bridge.  Finally we were on the right side of the river and 3 KM's more we got to the motel.  Madge, Andrew and me went on to Pam and Peter's.  We were so pleased to arrive to their house and a big smile from Pam. After a shower etc we felt much better.  It had been a tough biking day but the four of us were strong and we made it.  Pam and Peter are great hosts and made us feel very welcome.  Gordon, Sou and Olin joined us and we had a terrific dinner and then off to bed.
