Early start of 6:45 for Gordon, Andrew, and Ward. Sou, Olin and I got away at 10. Gorgeous trip mostly following the shore towards Nova Scotia. Made a brief stop so Olin could dip his feet in the ocean, then onwards to meet the boys in Pugwash for lunch. They were waiting in the shade for us! After lunch Olin and I found the nearest beach which was at the end of Water Street! He played happily with two other boys and we both got cooled off. More shells to add to the collection. We soon turned inland down through the Wentworth Valley. Very pretty. Stopped to give water to the riders at the top of a very long hill. I was impressed with how far they had gone since lunchtime. Took a still-sleeping boy down to the Tidal Bore Inn near Truro. Lots of room to run around here. We look over the river which is a mud flat when we arrive but later we watch the water come up around the corner all the way from the Bay of Fundy. As I am unpacking, Gordon and Maggie arrive complete with cocktail party fare! A lovely surprise. We all get to wave as the riders come along the road below us. Bikes get prepared for their final ride in the morning. Pizza for dinner; lucky that we have a bottle of ref wine! Early bed. The excitement builds for the morrow.
This is the story of how boring people can sometimes do exciting things. In this case father and son are going to bike across Canada in what will be either a great bonding experience or a lengthy estrangement. We are lucky enough to have Madge to support us on this ride and to be joined by Andrew, Souhaila, Marlie, Tom and Helen (And Olin of course). May we be strong of body and mind and may the wind be forever at our backs!
